January 11, 2000 SIUCTwo Southern Hills residents reported that someone entered their apartment through a broken window and stole several pieces of their Dell computer, and an Emerson compact disc player. This residential burglary was reported to SIUC Carbondale Police on December 29, 1999. Police have no suspects at this time. January 25, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are attempting to locate further information concerning a fire alarm that was pulled in Boomer Hall on January 16, 2000, at 0313 am. Although two subjects were detained, further information is needed to place them at the scene. The fire alarm stations were damaged on the second and fourth floors of Boomer II that morning. SIUC’s Housing Office is offering a separate reward of $500 to any person who provides information about any fire alarm tampered with in SIUC Housing areas. This information can be reported to any housing staff to qualify. This reward will be paid after a suspect is either convicted in court, OR upon being found in violation of the Student Conduct code. You cannot remain anonymous to claim this reward, but the burden of proof is less. February 22, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating a criminal damage to property complaint from a fraternity house on campus at 109 Greek Row. The sign located in front of the Alpha Tau Omega house was broken off of its supports, thrown into the street, and had tire marks across it when discovered. Damage to the sign was estimated at $900. The damage occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2000. March 7, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating the theft of a computer hard drive from a computer in Morris Library. On February 25, 2000, a library employee saw a white male tampering with a computer inside a browsing room. When confronted, the male argued that the computer was not working. The employee left to get assistance, and when they returned, the male was leaving the area. The male refused to stop and left the library. It was then discovered that the hard drive had been removed from the computer. The suspect is described as a white male, early 20's, 5'7", medium build, wearing a black ball cap, black sleeveless shirt, black jeans, carrying a black coat and a bookbag. The hard drive was valued at $200. March 21, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating an auto burglary that occurred in Lot 55 at the corner of Grand and S. Washington, near the Blue Barracks on March 6. Sometime between 9 a.m. and noon, the car was entered and a cd case containing 72 cd’s valued at $936 was stolen. There was no forced entry indicated, and police have no suspects. April 4, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed someone throw a fire extinguisher through 3 windows on an Agriculture Greenhouse. The damage was discovered on Saturday, March 25, and may have occurred the previous evening. Nothing was reported missing. Damage was estimated to be $75. April 18, 2000 SIUCThe SIUC Police Department is asking all SIUC Students that live in the East Campus Housing areas to report any information that they may know concerning the rash of fire alarms that were criminally activated over the past three weekends. Two fire alarms were falsely pulled the weekend of April 1st, six the weekend of April 8th, and one April 15th. Targeted buildings were Allen, Boomer, Mae Smith, Neely, and Schneider Halls. Cash rewards for this information are being offered by Housing and Crimestoppers. Any tips will be followed up. May 2, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating the burglary of car parked in the Glove Factory Lot this past Tuesday, April 25. While the owner of the car was working on his Cardboard Boat Regatta entry, someone entered his car and stole two cameras. Cameras are described as a Minolta Maxxum 35 mm, and an Olympus digital, combined valued at over $1,000. May 16, 2000 SIUCThe SIUC ATO Fraternity at 109 Greek Row had their leadership sign in front of their building vandalized on Friday, May 5, 2000. Unknown persons wrapped toilet paper around the sign, poured gasoline on it, and set it on fire, destroying it. Damage was around $1,000. The SIUC Police Department is requesting information from anyone who may know who participated in this vandalism. June 6, 2000 CarbondaleThe
Carbondale Police are investigating two auto burglary which occurred
between May 27th at 7 p.m. and May 28th at 12 p.m.. The burglary occurred
at the auto shop located at 318 N. Illinois Avenue. The two vehicles
were parked on the south side of the auto shop when they were broken
into. The first vehicle had the stereo stolen with no sign of forced
entry. The second vehicle had the stereo amplifier and speaker system
stolen. The passenger side window and the rear door window were shattered.
The trunk lock was pulled out and all doors were pried on. June 20, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating an auto burglary which occurred between 3:00 a.m. and 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 18th . The burglary occurred at Apt 1A, 2010 S. Illinois Avenue. The victims 1999 gray Mazda 626 was parked outside of his apartment when it was entered by unknown means. The trunk was opened most likely by a trunk release button and the following property was taken:
Total loss is estimated at $1558.00. June 27, 2000 SIUCThe SIUC Police Department is investigating a Burglary to five offices in the Communications Building. An unknown suspect forcibly broke in after work on Friday, June 16, 2000, and stole a Compac computer, a Boxlight digital projector, and other small items valued at over $4,000. July 5, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a residential burglary which occurred between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 2, 2000. The burglary took place at 2400 W. Main, Apt 157. The victim reported that unknown subject forced the door open to his room and removed a set of golf clubs, two microwaves, and a briefcase. Total loss is estimated at approximately $1465.00 and damage to the door is estimated at $100.00. Reporting officers discovered during the initial investigation that three white males, and one white female suspect driving a 80's model blue Ford 4-door could be possible suspects. July 11, 2000 SIUCTwo vehicles parked near the Student Center on the SIUC Campus were burglarized during daylight hours on Friday, June 30. A gray Chevy Malibu had a rear window broken out allowing entry. The car stereo and a case of CD’s were stolen. The other car, a black Suzuki Sidekick, had the door pried open and the dash destroyed while removing the stereo. Other items taken were a case of tools, a subwoofer, and a Discman. These auto burglaries occurred during the day while other motorists were present. Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the parking lots near the Student Center are asked to call the SIU Police, or Crimestoppers. July 25, 2000 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating the theft of several bicycles from the campus during the past two weeks. Bicycles have been stolen from around Morris Library, Faner Breezeway, and the Mae Smith bicycle rack. Police have no suspects at this time. Brand names of those stolen are Huffy, Dynasty, Dyno, and Nexe. They have a combined worth of $470. If you have seen any suspicious activity around those bicycle racks, OR, if you have noticed a new “used” bicycle in your neighborhood, please contact SIU Police or Crimestoppers. August 1, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a robbery which occurred on July 30th at approximately 11:48 p.m.. The incident took place in the parking lot of Brentwood Commons Apartments located at 250 S. Lewis Lane. The victim stated he met an unknown black male at Club Traz, and eventually gave him a ride home to Brentwood Commons Apartments to get more money. The victim stated the suspect got out of the car to go retrieve his money, when five black males approached from the back of his car. The victim stated he was punched in the face and forcibly removed from his car and his wallet was taken. The victim then fled the area and called the Police. The victim stated he can identify two or three of the suspects if seen again. August 15, 2000 SIUCSIU Carbondale Police Department is investigating the theft of two computer processors that were stolen from SIU Carbondale’s Lesar Law School during the first week of August. Each processor is described as a Gateway Pentium 3. Together they are valued at $3,000. There was no sign of forced entry to the room they were taken from. August 22, 2000 SIUCSIU Carbondale Police Department is investigating the theft of a power washer worth $1,500 from the Lentz Hall Loading Dock. Workers were using the power washer, and while they went on their lunch break, someone stole it from a room near the cafeteria offices. This theft occurred during the noon hour on Monday, August 14, 2000. September 5, 2000 SIUCSIU Carbondale Police Department is investigating a burglary at Lentz Dining Hall’s “Lakeside Deli.” During hours when the deli was closed, building workers saw two college age females, with food items hidden under their clothing, exit the deli and leave the building. Suspect #1 is described as a white female, shoulder length brown hair, 508/130, average build, wearing a white t-shirt. Suspect #2 is described as a white female, short hair natural black color, 508/130, average build, wearing a black shirt. This burglary occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday evening, August 25, 2000. The value of the stolen items has not been determined at this time. September 12, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating two business burglaries which occurred between the evening of September 2nd and the early morning hours of September 3rd. The first burglary occurred at Shoe’s N Stuff located at 106 S. Illinois Ave. The victim stated on reporting for work it was discovered that the front door glass was shattered. A cash register along with several pairs of shoes were missing. The total loss is estimated at $2,500.00. The second burglary occurred at Jeffrey’s Laundry located at 311 W. Main. The victim stated the west side door to the business was forced open. Taken was a cash register along with assorted clothing items. The estimated loss is unknown at this time. Evidence was collected in both burglaries and is being processed. September 19, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating a criminal sexual abuse and attempted criminal sexual assault that took place at 3 a.m. Sunday, September 17. Police say an unknown male attacked a 19-year old female in parking lot 106, just east of the University Park housing area. The victim did not require professional medical treatment. The suspect is described as white, 19-20 years old, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, blond hair, light colored eyes and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The incident is under investigation. September 26, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating an Armed Robbery which occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, September 15th. The robbery took place near trailer #45 inside Glisson Mobile Home Park located at 614 E. Park Street. The victim was a pizza delivery person who was attempting to make a delivery to trailer #44. Trailer #44 appeared to be vacant so he went to trailer #45 as he was walking he was met by two black males. One suspect was armed with a handgun, and ordered the victim to the lay on the ground. The suspects then took the victims cash, a check, and the pizza order and fled on foot northbound to east Grand Street. The victim described suspect #1 as a black male, 18-25 years of age, 5'06-5'08 tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a black handkerchief over his lower face and carrying a handgun. Suspect #2 was a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. October 3, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating several auto burglaries that occurred in Parking Lot 106, which is located on South Wall Street. Four cars were broken into sometime between Tuesday evening, September 26, and Saturday morning, September 30. Some of the cars had the windows broken out, while others had been pried open. Stolen from the cars were three in-dash stereos, an equalizer, speakers, two cellular telephones, over 100 cd’s, and golf clubs. The stolen items were valued at over $2,500. October 17, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating a robbery that occurred just before 11 pm on Saturday, October 14. While walking through the Wham Breezeway, a black male stopped the victim and demanded money. As the victim handed over a small amount of cash, the suspect struck the victim with an unknown object, causing an injury to the arm. The suspect then ran north on foot. The suspect is described as in his early 20’s, approximately 6’ tall, wearing a Fubu shirt, dark jeans, and a dark blue fitted baseball cap worn backwards. October 24, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a burglary which occurred between 4:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15th. The burglary took place at Beck Bus Service, 250 Miller Court. Beck Bus service reported that unknown person(s) cut a hole in the fence located on the west side of the business and burglarized four Saluki Express buses. After gaining entry into each of the buses the coin box was forced open and money was taken. It is undetermined how much money has been taken. Some evidence has been collected. October 31, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 28. As a resident of Schneider Tower returned to his room, he saw a man exit the door of his suitemate’s room and walk away. Shortly after, the resident discovered that his suitemates were not present, and that an Apple I-Book laptop computer was stolen from their room. The suspect seen leaving from the room is described as a male black, 5’ll’ to 6’ tall, skinny build, no facial hair, wearing a black baggy shirt, black pants, and a “do-rag” head covering. The stolen computer was valued at $1,800. November 14, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating a residential burglary that occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10. A resident of Allen III residential hall stepped outside for a 30-minute cigarette break, leaving his door closed but unlocked. When he returned, he discovered that several items had been stolen. Among the items stolen were a quantity of textbooks, calculators, a laptop computer, and a lockbox containing personal checks, all worth more than $2,000. Through follow up investigation, SIU Police has obtained three suspect descriptions of persons who may have been involved in the burglary.
November 21, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a residential burglary which occurred between 6:00 p.m. November 18th and 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19th. The burglary took place at 410 Cherry Court. The victim stated that an unknown person broke into the apartment, and stole the following property: Sanyo brand DVD player, Emerson brand VCR, assorted compact discs, a telephone, and U.S., Japanese and French currency. Entry into the residence was gained by the suspect breaking out a door window and unlocking the door. Total loss was estimated at approximately $1600.00. November 28, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a criminal damage to property report. The building located at 605 S. University is sustaining continuing damage by late night revelers. The building is under construction and damage to the building is occurring sometime after the bars close on S. Illinois Avenue. The victim stated that unknown persons within the last six weeks and as recently as November 12th have broken into the building and broke out several windows along with other miscellaneous damage. December 5, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police is investigating an attempted sexual assault that occurred early Saturday morning at 1:15 a.m., December 2, 2000. A 20-year-old female victim left Carboz Nightclub and began walking toward Brush Towers. The victim noticed the suspect walking behind her on Grand Street. When they neared the woods near Park and Wall Streets, the suspect pushed her off of the sidewalk, grabbed her by the throat, and attempted to push her into the wooded area. The victim fought, was able to free herself, and escaped. A description of the suspect is:

December 19, 2000 SIUCSouthern Illinois University Carbondale Police are investigating numerous car burglaries and car windows broken out on the campus’s east side parking lots (35, 62, 106) located between the south overpass and Wall Street. The damages occurred between December 7 and December 11, 2000. In all, twelve cars were broken into; five cars had their CD player removed, and one had a radar detector stolen. CD Player brands were Pioneer, Jensen, and Sony. Damage to the cars exceeded $3,680. December 26, 2000 CarbondaleThe Carbondale Police are investigating a Burglary and Attempted Burglary. The incidents occurred on Saturday, December 23rd, between 1 and 6 a.m. The burglary occurred at 1903 W. Main at the Mama’s Little Helper Laundromat, and the Attempted Burglary occurred at 1201 W. Main at the Hardee’s Restaurant. In the Laundromat burglary an unknown person entered the business by breaking the glass on the rear door. Once inside the suspect pried on two change machines, but was unsuccessful. Damage to the property is estimated at $325.00. The attempted burglary at Hardee’s occurred at 4:01 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers responded to an alarm to find a window broken out at the drive thru window. No entry was gained. Both incidents occurred within the same time frame, and could possibly be the same suspect in both incidents.
