January 16, 2003 SIUCAfter a SIUC basketball game on January 2, 2003, it was reported to SIUC Police that a maroon SIU hooded jacket was stolen from the coat rack near the Lingle Hall ticket office. The jacket has a zippered front, “Southern Illinois” in white lettering on the back, is marked with the owner’s initials, a pair of red gloves in the pockets, and is valued at $115. January 23, 2003 CarbondaleCarbondale Police are investigating a Damage to Property that occurred between 9 p.m. January 18 and 8 a.m. January 19 at the Hopewell Baptist Church, located at 400 East Main Street. An unknown person threw a cement block through a large window of the church. The amount of damage is not available. January 28, 2003 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating the Theft of a tan 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis automobile bearing Illinois license RBITR1. The victim reported it stolen from Parking Lot 4 near the Communications Building between noon and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2003. The paint is peeling on the car’s hood, and the driver’s side window will not fully close. The keys were left with the vehicle and the value has not been determined yet. February 7, 2003 CarbondaleCarbondale Police are investigating an Auto Burglary that occurred between 11:45 p.m. February 5and 12:10 a.m. February 6 in the parking lot behind Hangar 9, 511 South Illinois Avenue. An unknown person broke out a window on the victim’s 1990 Aerostar van and took a 19" Sanyo TV, an AIWA portable CD player, and a black briefcase. Loss and damage is in excess of $300. February 12, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating an Aggravated Assault and Battery that occurred on Sunday, February 9 at 9:30 p.m. near Morris Library. A female student was walking on the sidewalk adjacent to Morris Gardens enroute to the library when a white male approached her from the rear and began choking her. The female was able to escape without injury. The suspect is described as follows, and a composite of the suspect is attached. White male, about 5’7” tall, slender build, wore small silver framed oval glasses, clean shaven, wearing a navy blue stocking cap, button down dark blue flannel shirt, dark jacket, blue jeans, was carrying a black backpack, and was smoking a cigarette. February 19, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Vehicle Theft that occurred on February 19 between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. from a parking lot at 1108 West Main. Unknown person(s) stole a red 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup with Illinois registration 784PJ from the parking lot. The truck is valued at $6,000. February 25, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating the Theft of two large Lexan advertising signs from the Softball Field located between Grand Avenue and Park Street. Both signs are described as being 2 ½’ x 5’ in size, are made of Lexan plastic and are valued together at $730. One panel advertises Pepsi, the other Mountain Dew. Both signs were stolen between February 13th and February 19th. March 5, 2003 CarbondaleCarbondale Police are investigating a Residential Burglary that occurred between 6 p.m. on February 27 and 10 p.m. on March 2 at 202 East College. Unknown person(s) forced entry to the residence and stole a Play Station 2 with games, and CD’s. The loss is in excess of $1,700. March 7, 2003 SIUCSIUC Police are investigating three Robbery/Battery Incidents that occurred on Monday, March 3rd and Tuesday, March 4th, 2003.
In all cases, the descriptions of the suspects are the same:
None of the victims required medical attention. Only one wallet was stolen which was valued at $38. A campus safety alert has been issued. The victims have put together four composite sketches of the suspects, which are below.
March 26, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating the Theft of a McIntosh I-Pod MP3 player and wallet from a student’s backpack in the Communications Building on Monday, March 17, 2003, between 11 a.m. and noon. The MP3 player is described as having a white front and silver back and has white headphones. It was inside a black cloth carrying case and is valued at $300. The serial number is on file. The wallet contained various forms of identification and one gift certificate. Police have no suspects. Carbondale Police are investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 29 at the Hampton Inn, 2175 Reed Station Parkway. Three suspects entered the hotel and demanded cash. The male suspect was armed with a chrome revolver with a black handle. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash drawer and fled the scene. Suspects are described as:
April 9, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating the Criminal Damage of seven (7) traffic control signs in and around the area of Greek Row that occurred between 1:30 - 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2003. Tire marks indicate an unknown vehicle was used to hit the signs, bending some; others were ripped from the ground and dragged several yards. Police have no suspect or value of the damages yet. April 17, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Burglary that occurred between 3:30 p.m. on April 15 and 7:30 a.m. April 16 at a construction site at 105 Dillinger Road. Unknown person(s) forced entry to two trailers at the work site and stole tools and equipment, including the following:
Loss and damage is estimated at $950. April 22, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating a Criminal Damage to university property at the Vivarium Annex located on West Chautauqua Road (the old Sunset Haven) that was discovered on Friday, April 18, 2003. While checking the building, officers found a door had been damaged to gain entry to the building. Interior items had been tampered with, however, no further damage was located. Police have no suspect(s) or value of the damages. SIUC Police are investigating a Stabbing incident that occurred at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 in front of the Student Center. The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old; 5’9” to 5’11” tall, 150-160 pounds, wearing a dark blue hooded nylon jacket with a Nike swoosh on the back, a light blue shirt, blue jeans and brown suede boots. The suspect fled the scene on foot. The male victim, a cab driver who was delivering the suspect to his destination, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of stab wounds and has since been released. May 14, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Burglary that occurred between 8:30 p.m. May 12 and 9:30 a.m. May 13 at 3109 West Kent Drive. Unknown person(s) entered the garage of the residence and removed the following items from a vehicle:
Loss is estimated in excess of $2,700. No suspects exist at this time. May 21, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating a Residential Burglary that occurred in Schneider Hall on May 9, 2003. No force was used to enter the room. Taken from a resident’s room were the following items:
Estimated value of the items is approximately $600. There are no suspects. May 29, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Residential Burglary that occurred between 10:00 p.m. May 23 and 8:00 p.m. May 26 at 404 South University Avenue. Unknown person(s) entered the residence and removed the following items:
Loss is estimated in excess of $2,000. No suspects exist at this time. Carbondale Police are investigating a Theft that occurred between 6:00 p.m. May 23 and 3:00 a.m. May 26 at West Town Shell, 202 North Emerald Lane. Unknown person(s) stole a Meyers brand 7 ½’ black and yellow snow plow blade from the north side of the building. The blade was valued at $1,800. No suspects exist at this time. June 20, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are attempting to locate a Stolen Vehicle that was taken on Friday, June 13, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. from Lot 39, located near the Agriculture Building. The car is described as a:

Carbondale Police are investigating a Burglary that occurred between 2:00 and 7:15 a.m. July 2 at Boo Jr’s, 827 ½ East Main Street. Unknown person(s) forced entry to the building by pushing in a window air conditioner. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole liquor and an undisclosed amount of coins by forcing open coin operated machines. No suspects exist at this time. July 9, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating an Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault that occurred around 3:00 a.m. on July 8 in the 500 block of South Graham. The suspect entered a residence through a window while armed with a handgun. He took money from the female victim and sexually assaulted her before fleeing from the residence. July 15, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating a Burglary that occurred at the Altgeld Hall construction site between Thursday, July 10 at 5:20 p.m. and Friday, July 11 at 7 a.m. Entry was gained to the building by force. Large quantities of construction tools were stolen from several tool storage areas inside the building. A partial list of items stolen, valued in excess of $7,500, includes the following brands and types. Serial numbers are on file for some items:
SIUC Police are asking for assistance in identifying any persons involved. July 31, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Home Invasion which occurred on July 30, 2003 around 3:30 a.m. in the 500 block of South Forest. A 20 year-old female victim reported being awakened by a male intruder who was armed with a knife. The suspect had forced entry into the residence. The suspect attempted to sexually assault the victim, but the victim was able to flee the residence. The suspect was not located by police. He is described as a
August 13, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Vehicle Theft which occurred on 8-12-03 between 8:55 and 9:10 pm in the K-Mart parking lot, 1250 East Main Street. Stolen was a Beige 2001 Lincoln LS 4-door with Illinois Registration KJS1012. The car is valued at $26,000. Police have no suspect(s) at this time. August 21, 2003 Carbondale Carbondale Police are investigating a Burglary which occurred between 5 p.m. on August 18 and 8 a.m. on August 19 at Southern Gas Company, 1114 North Marion Street. Unknown person(s) forced entry to the business and stole a computer, fax machine, typewriter, and a digital postal meter. Damage and loss is in excess of $1,000. August 26, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating 5 Auto Burglaries (including two stolen cars) which occurred in Lot 106, S. Wall Street, after 9:45 p.m. on Monday, August 18 and before noon on Tuesday, August 19. Unknown person(s) forcibly entered five autos parked in Lot 106 by breaking windows, and/or prying the doors open. Two of the cars were recovered in a nearby parking lot. Excessive damage occurred to all car’s doors, windows, and dash areas. Some of the items stolen from the five cars include:

Carbondale Police and Fire Departments are investigating an Arson which occurred around 2:00 a.m. on August 18 at Lewis Park Apartments, 800 East Grand Avenue. Unknown person(s) set fire to trash dumpsters in the apartment complex. At least two vehicles parked near the dumpsters were damaged by the fire. Damage and loss is in excess of $1,000. The Carbondale Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery which occurred at 10:00 p.m. on October 5 at Veach Short Stop, 1123 East Main. A suspect armed with a knife entered the building and demanded money. He took the cash register and fled on foot. He is described as a black male, 6'1", slender build, wearing a dark-colored sweat suit and a bandana on his face. SIUC Police are investigating the attempted strong-armed robbery of a student that occurred in the courtyard area east of Neely Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2003. Two male suspects hit the victim and tried unsuccessfully to take his wallet. The victim was not injured. The suspects are described as:

November 13, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred at 8:13 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, on the south footbridge near Boomer Hall on the east side of campus. Police say two male suspects allegedly used a gun during the robbery of two victims. The victims were not injured.
Police do not have any suspect(s) and are requesting assistance. November 19, 2003 SIUC SIUC Police are investigating two reports of stolen SIUC equipment from Lesar Law School. On or around October 16 a gray 17” Dell flat panel computer monitor was stolen from a video cart in the hallway. Sometime between November 1st and November 12th, a JVC compact camcorder (model GR-SXM250) was stolen from a video storage closet. Both items are valued in excess of $500. Serial numbers are on file with SIUC Police. Police have no suspect(s) at this time. November 25, 2003 Carbondale The Carbondale Police Department is investigating an Armed Robbery which occurred at 1:00 a.m., November 20, 2003 at McDonald’s, 2102 W. Main. The suspect approached employees on the parking lot as they were closing the business, displayed a handgun, and forced them back into the business. He then forced the manager to give him an undisclosed amount of money from the safe, and locked the employees inside the business before leaving the scene. The suspect is described as a black male, 6', 200 lbs, wearing a dark coat, dark pants and a mask. The Carbondale Police Department is investigating an auto burglary which occurred between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., December 14, 2003 at University Mall parking lot. The victim parked his 1992 GMC pickup truck on the south side of the mall while shopping inside. Unknown person(s) shattered the passenger window and stole the following items:

December 24, 2003 Carbondale The Carbondale Police Department is investigating an armed robbery which occurred on December 23 around 1:00 a.m. at Lewis Park Apartments, 800 E. Grand Avenue, near building 44. The victim was walking to his apartment when he was stopped by a suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded the victim empty his pockets, and eventually struck the victim in the head several times with the gun after getting the victim’s wallet. The suspect fled on foot and was not located by police. The suspect is described as a black male, 6', 180 lbs., last seen wearing a black jacket and pants, and a black stocking cap with silver or white vertical stripes.
