Community Members Honored at Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association
2003 Spring Training Conference

Crime Stoppers programs throughout Illinois honored the exceptional work of their local supporters on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the 16th Annual Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association Training and Conference. The three day event was hosted by the Decatur and Macon County Area Crime Stoppers at the Holiday Inn Select Conference Hotel in Decatur, Illinois. Members from Crime Stoppers organizations across the state participated to discuss and exchange ideas regarding current programs.

The Carbondale Crime Stoppers program awarded Patty Stokes, of Heartland Food Service, the "Outstanding Contributor of the Year" award, and Zimmer Radio Group the "Media Organization of the Year" award. Award recipients were chosen for their outstanding efforts and dedication to Carbondale Crime Stoppers. Coordinator of Carbondale Crime Stoppers, Officer Dan Reed, accepted plaques on behalf of Heartland Food Service and Zimmer Radio Group from Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association President Karin D. Betzer-Grady.

For the past four years, Heartland Food Service has generously donated food, drink and services free of charge for the Annual Carbondale Crime Stoppers Spaghetti Dinner. Employees of Heartland Food Service donate their time to prepare and serve the Dinner each year. The Dinner has raised funds for Carbondale Crime Stoppers at an average of $1,100 annually, and serves about 200 people every year. The money earned is placed directly into the Carbondale Crime Stoppers account, which is used to pay cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests.

Employees from Zimmer Radio Group have been a part of Carbondale Crime Stoppers since its inception in 1993. Zimmer Radio Group, which owns and operates six radio stations locally, has continuously been extremely supportive of our efforts. On air personalities Tom Miller and Rosslind Rice have helped promote Carbondale Crime Stoppers as well as help solve cases through promotion of the Crime Stoppers "Crime of the Week". Tom Miller has been helping Carbondale Crime Stoppers since 1993, and Rosslind Rice has been helping us through the Zimmer Radio Group for more than five years.

Carbondale Crime Stoppers would like to thank both of these organizations for their continued support of our efforts in solving crimes in the Carbondale area.
